What is the International Thespian Society (ITS)?

The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the country. ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre—performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.

How do I become a Thespian?
When a student participates in an MHS production, they are awarded Thespian Points that correspond with their role on/offstage. One Thespian Point roughly translates to ten hours of contribution towards the success of MHS theatre.
Thespian points are awarded at the conclusion of every MHS production/theatre event. Students are eligible to become a Thespian after they have earned fifteen (15) Thespian Points by the end of the spring musical production that year.

When are Thespians inducted?
The ITS induction ceremony and one-act production are held in May.

What happens next after I am inducted?
Thespians of Troupe #8867 are eligible to participate in the spring ITS one-act play that is produced in conjunction with the ITS induction ceremony. They also receive star designations in every MHS theatre program. At graduation, Thespians wear a blue and gold cord to represent their membership.

Thespians continue to earn points after their induction to advance their membership rank. For every ten points earned, a Thespian receives a star (e.g. when a Thespian has earned at least twenty (20) Thespian Points, they earn the rank of Two-Star Thespian).

How do I record my involvement/points earned?
Thespian points are tracked on a master spreadsheet located on the ITS call board. The spreadsheet will be updated after the strike of each production. Any student interested in becoming a Thespian should officially register all points earned via the ITS call board. It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of their points and apply for membership when they believe they have reached the point threshold.

When do you have meetings?
Meetings are held periodically throughout the year at the discretion of the Troupe advisor and/or president. The next meeting date will be posted on the ITS call board.
